Almond milk yogurt

(4 customer reviews)

Almond milk yogurt is a creamy and delicious dairy-free alternative to traditional yogurt. This homemade yogurt is perfect for those following a vegan or lactose-free diet, made with just a few simple ingredients, including almond milk and dairy-free probiotics. Enjoy it plain or customize it with your favorite sweeteners and flavorings for a healthy and satisfying snack or breakfast option.

  • 2 cups almond milk (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons dairy-free yogurt starter culture or 1-2 capsules of dairy-free probiotics
  • Optional sweetener (maple syrup, agave nectar, or honey) to taste
  • Optional flavorings (vanilla extract, fruit puree, etc.)

  1. Heat Almond Milk: Pour the almond milk into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat until it reaches about 110°F (43°C). Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature. Heating the milk helps activate the probiotics.
  2. Inoculate with Starter Culture: Remove it from the heat once the almond milk reaches the desired temperature. Add the dairy-free yogurt starter culture to the warm almond milk and whisk until fully dissolved. Alternatively, you can open 1-2 capsules of dairy-free probiotics and stir them into the almond milk.
  3. Incubate: Pour the inoculated almond milk into a clean glass jar or yogurt maker and cover it with a lid or plastic wrap.
  4. Incubate: Place the jar in a warm spot, such as an oven with the light on or a yogurt maker, and let it incubate for 6-12 hours. The longer it incubates, the tangier the yogurt will become.
  5. Check Consistency: After the desired incubation time, check the consistency of the yogurt. It should have thickened and resembled the consistency of regular yogurt.
  6. Sweeten and Flavor (Optional): If desired, sweeten the almond milk yogurt with your choice of sweetener, such as maple syrup, agave nectar, or honey. You can also add flavorings like vanilla extract or fruit puree to enhance the taste.
  7. Chill: Transfer the almond milk yogurt to the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 2 hours before serving. Chilling helps the yogurt thicken further and develop its flavor.
  8. Serve: Once chilled, serve the almond milk yogurt plain or with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, granola, or nuts. Enjoy its creamy texture and delicious flavor as a dairy-free alternative to traditional yogurt.
